Terminology: REDDI Report

REDDI stands for Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately.

It is a way for citizens to report suspected drunk drivers to law enforcement.

Heard during a DUI trial. One of the witnesses that testified was the citizen who had called in the REDDI Report, to notify law enforcement of another vehicle’s erratic driving.

"He passed the sobriety test. Now I think he's just showing off."

Translations

Spanish – REDDI is an acronym. Unless anyone knows of a common equivalent in a Spanish-speaking country, I would refer to it as un Informe REDDI.

Just a little 420 fun for interpreters!

There is some good terminology in these two articles. It is also interesting to note the differences in the way the legal sale of marijuana is being handled in Uruguay versus Colorado. Both articles are from Uruguayan newspaper El Observador.

Terminology: Corpus delicti

A Latin legal phrase meaning “body of the crime.” Refers to the essential facts showing that a crime has been committed.

A defendant’s confession to a crime is not considered sufficient to prove guilt, as there must be some other corroborating evidence of a crime having been committed.

A common example is the need for a dead body in order to convict someone of murder.

Heard in a First Appearance, when a judge was trying to establish Probable Cause.

Spanish – Since this is a Latin term, it can be left as is.  Alternatively, the Spanish translation would be cuerpo del delito.
